“Mentoring was a great opportunity to get into…”

When Jack* was referred to us he had no place to live, being put up temporarily in hotels by the local authority; the accommodation was due to stop because of Jacks’s behaviour and drug use. Starting Point worked with the police to explore employment options for him, then through building a mentoring relationship, helped Jack develop more positive decision-making skills and to recognise his potential. The next step was working with Joe on the practical aspects of CV writing, job applications and interview preparation.

Six months later Jack has his own accommodation, a full-time job in a warehouse and is no longer taking drugs. His mentor still supports him to help him maintain this amazing transformation.

“[Mentoring] has benefitted me a lot. I was in stupid places, doing stupid things, but now I see a brighter future because of it.”
